How it works

This tool scans your text for transition words and connective phrases that create flow between ideas. Paragraphs lacking transitions are flagged so you can improve cohesion. All analysis runs entirely in your browser.

• Transition detection: identifies over 200 common transition words and phrases across categories including addition, contrast, cause/effect, sequence, emphasis, example, and conclusion. Multi-word phrases like “on the other hand” and “as a result” are matched as complete units.
• Paragraph analysis: each paragraph is evaluated independently. Paragraphs with no transitions are flagged as lacking flow, while those with adequate transitions are marked as having good connectivity.
• Flow score: an overall score reflects the percentage of paragraphs that contain at least one transition. Aim for 70% or higher for well-connected prose. Very short paragraphs (under 10 words) are excluded from scoring.
• Category breakdown: transitions are grouped by function (addition, contrast, cause/effect, etc.) so you can see whether your text relies too heavily on one type of connector or has good variety.
